Magic Knight Rayearth Anime

The MKR anime was originally released in two Memorial Collection Box Sets and later in individual DVDs (covers shown below). The series was then re-released in two Economy Box in summer 2005. These new box sets are two slim plastic cases containing all discs from each season in one container. Most recently a "World of Magic Knight Rayearth" collection was released in December 2006. This is simply the two economy boxes with a thin paper box to hold them together, and is the cheapest release yet. The economy sets contain all the same features as the original Memorial Box Sets, plus a bonus disc with two interviews (in Japanese with subtitles) with the Japanese director and audio director, running about an hour.

RAYEARTH OAV

Out of print
The 3-episode "RAYEARTH" OVA is an 'alternate universe' type of story in which Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu are very close friends in a girls' school who are facing the prospect of graduating and going their separate ways. The OVA is not really based on either the manga or anime but is a completely separate story loosely based on the characters of both seasons. The storyline is much darker and the battles more violent, and the characters from Cephiro appear in completely different contexts. The action takes place much more quickly and is like a movie version of the encounter between the Knights and the invading Cephirans.
